Facelift Surgery

(Rhytidectomy)

Over time, the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and daily stresses lead to visible signs of aging on the face and neck. Dr. Borko offers facelift surgery for patients experiencing fine lines, deep wrinkles, and sagging skin in the mid to lower face and neck.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift (also known as a rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that tightens drooping tissues and wrinkled, excess skin in the cheeks, around the mouth, along the jawline, and in the neck.

After a rhytidectomy, you should experience more youthful contours that can make you feel confident.

Am I a Candidate for a Rhytidectomy?

You may be a candidate for a facelift if you experience moderate to severe facial aging. Patients are in generally good health, have realistic expectations of their results, and do not smoke.

During your consultation with Dr. Borko, he will make sure his and your aesthetic goals align. He has performed thousands of facelifts and understands how adjusting one aspect of the face affects another. Because of this, he may recommend combining procedures such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery), brow lift surgery, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and/or chemical peel resurfacing to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation and the best results possible.

What’s the Best Age for a Facelift?

Everyone ages at different rates, so there is no ideal age for a facelift candidate. The majority of patients are in their 40s to 60s, but this procedure can be successful for people in their 70s and 80s as well as those in their 30s with facial aging.

While it’s never too late to rejuvenate your appearance, the sooner you undergo a facial rejuvenation procedure, the better results Dr. Borko can achieve and the longer he can help you maintain them.

Schedule a consultation to determine if a facelift is right for you.

How Is the Facelift Procedure Performed?

Where Are the Incisions Made for Facelift Surgery?

Incisions begin in the hairline above the ears and end in a natural line in front of the ear. The incisions will extend behind the earlobe, reaching the lower scalp.

Vertically Lifting the Face and Neck Muscles

After incisions are made, the facial skin and muscles are separated. To avoid a windswept look, Dr. Borko uses the vertical facelift technique to lift the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) of the face and the platysma muscles of the neck. The SMAS is pulled vertically along the ear, along the cheeks, and around the eyes to achieve the most natural facelift results. It is then securely attached to the cheekbones for long-lasting results.

Smoothing and Removing Excess Skin

The skin is redraped over the lifted facial contours, and excess skin is trimmed to create a smoother appearance.

Nano Fat Grafting

Dr. Borko believes that no modern facelift should be done without fat grafting, as it is essential to restore lost volume in the face. Facial fat transfer with micro (nano) fat grafting creates a more plump, youthful appearance and fills facial hollows and wrinkles.

The nano fat grafting procedure removes excess fat from a donor area of the body and then strategically injects the purified micro fat into the face.

Nano Fat Can Be Used to Fill:

  • Nasolabial folds (from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth)
  • Lower eyelids (“tear troughs”)
  • Cheeks
  • Temples

How Long Does Facelift Recovery Take?

After your surgery, you will experience mild pain and discomfort that can be easily remedied with over-the-counter or prescription medication. It is important to keep your head elevated as much as possible for the first few days to reduce swelling and promote proper healing.

Patients who had drainage tubes and bandages placed on their face will have them removed just a few days after surgery. Most stitches will be removed in five days.

Patients can often return to work 10 days following their procedure. However, strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks.

When Will I See My Rhytidectomy Results?

Your facial plastic surgery results will be visible as soon as swelling and bruising subside. You may notice dry, rough skin for the first few months, but this is normal. Your facial contours and skin will improve over time, and full results will be visible within six months.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost?

The cost of your surgery will depend on the surgical techniques used and the amount of correction needed. Generally, facelift costs will depend on surgeon fees, anesthesia fees, and operating room fees.

During your consultation with Dr. Borko, you will receive a specific facelift price quote based on your needs.
