What Is Facial Fat Transfer With Nano Fat Grafting?
Nano fat grafting, also known as nano fat transfer or micro fat transfer, is the process of removing excess fat from the body, filtering it, and injecting it into another area to add volume. This procedure involves filtering the fat in a different way than traditional fat grafting, leaving only tiny fat particles with a high concentration of stem cells. The nano fat that remains is highly beneficial for rejuvenating delicate areas of the face that experience volume loss and contour irregularities.
The results of facial fat transfer with nano fat grafting can be compared to the results of dermal fillers, but nano fat provides better results that last longer. It also has the added benefit of slimming areas of the body with excess fat.
Dr. Borko offers facial fat injections for people looking to improve their appearance and self-confidence.
What Can Nano Fat Grafting Treat?
- Wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds around the mouth
- Dark circles and hollows under the eyes
- Volume loss in the cheeks/cheekbones
- Thinning or undefined lips
- Crepey skin in the face and neck
- A recessed chin
- Depressed scars
In addition to its applications for facial rejuvenation, fat transfer with nano fat can also fill and smooth aging hands.
Am I a Candidate for Facial Fat Transfer?
To be a candidate for facial fat grafting, you must have excess fat on your body that can be removed. However, nano fat transfer requires just a small amount of excess fat compared to fat transfer to the breasts or butt (Brazilian Butt Lift).
A consultation with Dr. Borko is the best way to determine your candidacy for nano fat transfer. Candidates are in generally good health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations of their results.
Where Is the Donor Fat Taken From?
Donor fat can be taken from almost any area of the body, such as the:
- Abdomen
- Thighs
- Hips
- Buttocks
After performing a physical evaluation at your initial consultation, Dr. Borko will determine the best donor site.

Anesthesia
The micro fat grafting procedure is generally performed with local anesthesia to keep patients comfortable. Patients with large amounts of fat being harvested may need to have the liposuction portion of the procedure under sedation or general anesthesia.
Harvesting the Fat
Dr. Borko will begin the procedure by using liposuction techniques to harvest unwanted fat.
Purifying the Nano Fat
After the fat is removed, it is processed in a centrifuge that spins and separates the fat cells from the connective tissues. The remaining smooth liquid concentration known as nano fat contains a high concentration of stem cells, which provide tissue regeneration.
Facial Injections
The nano fat is then injected into various areas of the face using a small cannula. The small needle and smooth fat concentration allow your surgeon to target small areas directly.
Facial Fat Transfer Recovery and Results
What Is the Recovery Like After Facial Fat Grafting?
If you are being put under general anesthesia for the procedure, you will need to bring someone with you to the appointment to drive you home.
For the first two to three weeks after your facial fat grafting, you will see swelling and bruising at your donor site. Swelling on your face should resolve in two weeks.
How Long Will Facial Fat Transfer Recovery Take?
The facial fat grafting recovery time varies from person to person. Patients can typically return to work within seven to 10 days after their procedure. However, strenuous activities should be avoided for at least two weeks to ensure maximum survival of the transferred fat.
What Results Can I Expect After Facial Fat Injections?
After nano fat injections, you should experience a slimmer appearance at the donor site and more youthful facial contours. Results will be visible as soon as swelling and bruising subside. However, it can take up to six months for the transferred micro fat to establish a blood supply and take permanent hold.
How Long Does Fat Transfer to the Face Last?
Results are intended to be long lasting to permanent, but natural aging and weight loss can reduce the transferred fat in your face.
Facial fat injection procedures can be repeated over time to maintain your results.
How Much Does Facial Fat Grafting Cost?
Since everyone has different needs for the procedure, the cost of facial fat grafting will vary. Pricing depends on the amount of correction needed and the number of donor areas. It also depends on anesthesia fees, surgeon fees, operating room fees, and the procedure’s location.
Please schedule a consultation with Dr. Borko to receive a specific nano fat grafting price quote based on your needs.
Can Facial Fat Grafting Be Combined With Other Procedures?
Facial fat grafting is often performed in combination with facelift surgery to reduce facial aging signs and provide volume. It can also be combined with rhinoplasty surgery for patients looking to change the shape or size of their nose.
What Are the Side Effects of Facial Fat Transfer?
Since fat transfer uses your own fat cells for facial enhancement, there is no risk of your body rejecting the fat. Additionally, when performed by an experienced, qualified surgeon such as Dr. Borko, facial fat transfer is a generally safe procedure with minimal risk of complications. However, with any surgery, risks are present.
While rare, potential facial fat transfer risks include:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Anesthesia risks
- Cysts
Please speak with Dr. Borko if you are concerned regarding the risks of facial fat transfer. He can answer any questions and address your concerns.
